Ammonia is found present in wastewater from semiconductor and chemical plants, in oil refinery emissions, as well as in the urine of animals. Used in a wide range of industries in applications such as in fertilizer and chemical products, it is now mass-produced using hydrogen obtained from fossil fuels.

Why is gas monitoring necessary?

  • Inhaling or exposure to dangerous concentrations of ammonia can result in injury to the mucous membranes. Measuring ammonia concentrations is therefore an important part of ensuring safety in the workplace.
  • Ammonia can explode at concentrations of 15.4%-33.6%.
  • Ammonia can corrode metals, resulting in accidents and defective equipment.
  • Ammonia can also react with halogens or strong acids to form explosive compounds.
